Following the end of the civil war, the government of Sri Lanka was looking for different ways to revive its economy and help the country’s development. In the 2015 elections, to the surprise of many, Rajapaksa lost to Sirisena who was among those who criticized the bill introduced in 2010.

With the rule of the new president, there were several amendments to the gambling laws in Sri Lanka. In addition to Crown, two other international operators received approval to launch hotel and casino resorts in Sri Lanka during the rule of Rajapaksa.
